Short, British stems – Renthal Duo 40mm, Hope AM 35mm

hope renthal

With bigger wheels and bigger bikes comes shorter stems … 40mm is the new 50mm!

Here’s two short and brand new British-made stems that have just landed at Wideopenmag HQ – one from Hope and one from Renthal.

Renthal Duo 40mm.
The Duo is the shorter-than-ever version of Renthal’s top quality stem – now available in 40mm as well as the usual 50mm.

We’ve had the 50mm version on test for about a year now and been super impressed. The two-piece design is slightly more time-consuming to set up than a normal stem but makes for a super-stiff and super-tight clamp. The whole thing is made of 6082 T6 aluminium and is designed to be light and to minimise stress on your bars. By building the stem in two halves Renthal are able to get into the ‘core’ of the stem and make sure that it’s as light as it possibly can be – at 124g with bolts it’s pretty damn light!

  • 40mm offset
  • 10degree rise
  • 40mm stack height
  • 31.8mm handlebar clamp
  • 124g (including bolts)
  • £79.99
  • Distributed by Ison Distribution

Hope AM 35mm
This one is absolutely brand spanking new from Hope and is the shortest stem we’ve ever seen here on Wideopenmag!

Hope’s stems are – like much of their great products – designed, manufactured and tested oop north in Barnoldswick here in Old Blighty. The stem is machined from a solid billet with loads of working going in to shaving off the grams. The super-short length and careful machining means that it’s super light, clocking in at just 130g.

  • CNC machined in Barnoldswick, England
  • 2014 T6 aluminium
  • 4 bolt bar clamps
  • Opposing steerer clamp
  • Anodised and laser etched
  • Available in Silver, Black, Blue, Red, Gold and Gunsmoke
  • £80
