Core is one of a few industry shows where the bike companies get together to show off their newest and fanciest goods. Our mate Matt Wragg popped down for the day to see what’s new for 2011…
White Brothers Loop fork

The guys at Ison were keen to show off the new fork from White Brothers and it’s easy to see why. With a refined, simple chassis it looks like a class offering and they’re lining it up to go head-to-head with Fox’s 32. They’re offering two models, each with three internally adjustable travel settings (80/100/120mm and (130/140/150mm) and a QR15 keeping it all together at the bottom. It should retail at about £600.
Thomson goodness
Thomson were showing off their new seatclamps. The one in the middle is the final version, the two either side are the prototypes. The bit sticking out is a ratchet like you find in DT skewers. It looks like a much simpler and more robust system than a QR and as it’s made by Thomson we expect it’ll last longer than you will. In the background you can see one of their trick anodised posts. They’re going to be offering their Elite posts in this finish, although they didn’t bring the Union Jack one with them.
ODI Stay Strong grips
These are nice thin grip and you’ll help Steven Murray’s Stay Strong fund. Cool.
Halo wheels
Halo had their full range on display and they were looking good. They’ve refined their supadrive and it now sounds even better. We’re feeling the red anodising too.
Gusset pedals
These were so light we completely forget what they’re called. The ti axle version (with the gold axle on the right) feels like it might blow away in a strong breeze, but the cromo version are exactly lardy either. Designed by Gusset from the ground up (you won’t find other folk selling these with another logo on them) the cromo version is set to retails for about £90 (price on the ti version is to be confirmed).
Easton Havoc wheels
These have to be in the running for the ultimate DH wheelset. We know Easton can make stuff that lasts and they are the lightest set we can think of at just 1750g for the pair. They’re another company that’s got onto the anodising bandwagon and it looks trick.
Hope cranks
Hope had these prototype cranks on their stand. No details yet, but look at the machining!
Renthal 780mm bars
Hopefully these should hit stores in the next few weeks. What else do we need to say about Renthal bars? They’re the class act among handlebars right now and we reckon 780mm is a good call, so you can cut them to your perfect length.
Cane Creek Angleset
Ok, these aren’t exactly new, but they’re well worth a closer look. Aside from being a great idea, the quality of workmanship is cracking.
That’s it – Cheers to Matt for shooting this across and for all at Core for hooking him up with heaps of info.
More to come from Core later in the week …
