Here at wideopen we are in awe of people who go that bit further to help others and make a difference. Whilst the rest of the team have hopped on the train to Landan Tarn for the Cycle Show, here’s a couple of people who are making a big difference by going that extra step further. Remember that even a couple of pounds makes a big difference to the overall total and something is better than nothing at all.
Firstly our very own Jacob Gibbins is climbing Kilimanjaro with his dad Tim. Tim suffers from Retinitis Pigmentosa which, in laymans terms, is killing his retina and will, in the future, mean that he will lose his sight altogether. This is a disease which can onset at any time and tragically means that Tim will, after having sight for over 50 years, lose it altogether.
The pair will be climbing the 19,334ft Kilimanjaro in Africa on the 17th-27th February 2011. Check out the blog for the trip right here – all the best Jacob & Tim!
Secondly Paula Ireland, sister of Trek Gravity Girl racer Jess Stone will be attempting to pull nearly 11 tonnes of truck.. at just 5ft 5″ tall the task is harder still, she’ll also be entering the Guiness World Records if she manages to pull it off. The pull takes place on the 23rd October at Colchester Barracks in aid of BLESMA: The British Limbless Ex Service Mens Association. Check out www.charityantics.org for more details and check out the ITV news coverage of her attempt at the ITV website
Good luck to all the participants and don’t forget to check out their websites for details on the attempts and how to donate!
