Taped ‘photo zones’ for 2010 BritishDHChamps

I just had a chat with the BritishDHChamps team and got an interesting update for photographers in 2010.

For next season, all events will feature taped off areas for pre-registered photographers only. Snappers will be able to use these ‘photo zones’ to get up close to the action without risking the wrath of the marshalls and without getting in the way of riders.

The system of photo zones is one that’s currently used at the UCI World Cups, where photographers have to register to receive a bib to get access. At the British Champs, these zones will be set up for the proffessional/semi pro photographers that are working to commission.

Photogs will need to pre-register with the BDHC team prior to the event to receive a photo-bib and there will be 10 taped off zones that they can then access. There may also be a limited number of bibs available on the day.

The zones will be taped out on Friday morning with the input of the series’ official photographer David Francoisy.

After a season with a few ‘upsets’ between marshals and photographers it’s interesting to see the BDHC team stepping in and introducing something like this. It’ll also be interesting to see how the zones work and whether or not the best snaps will come from inside or outside the zones!

What do you guys think? Good news for the series?

More news will be up on  the BDHC homepage soon

Hopefully they'll tape the zones out a bit better than this....

  1. Just trying to make it better for you guys
Lets not have the problems they had in 2009

We hope it will be like the Uk’s version of the UCI
    We hope

  2. Yeah…. Ft Bill was a bit of a joke to be honest…

Plus it seemed a bit odd that they were pretty liberal awarding press accreditation, were suddenly super tight with the bibs!

Yes a good step in the right direction.
Can I suggest that if you only want the serious shooters in there that they produce proof of their insurance too. Covers BDH’s arse as well as theirs.
Oh and it shouldn’t get eliteist. There must be some mechanism for up and coming shooters to gain access somehow, otherwise how will we produce decent shots in the future.

Yeah – the elitist thing was something I’d mentioned too – it’s always been a good thing to be able to roll up to a race and be on an equal footing with all the other snappers that are there. You’re just as good as your imagination, skill etc will allow… and you’re not locked out of an exclusive club or ought….

It would be good to either be pretty flexible with the rules for entry or allow up and comers a chance to get in after showing they are serious… I’m sure we all started somewhere and someone took a chance and gave us our first press pass when we probably didn’t deserve it!

Insurance should be considered. Firstly, you’re more than likely lugging thousands of pounds of kit around and second, it won’t be long before a rider blames you or your kit for their crap riding and ends up in hospital, can’t work, broken bike, broken camera kit etc. Worth the £20 a month. Essential really.

everyone knows my views – i just want to shoot & the riders just want me to shoot – it all sounds a good idea though. i am a tad worried that a tog could turn up late & all the bibs are gone – who’s to say only 10 togs may turn up for an event?some of us dont drive (me).so getting to events aint always private jets & champagne golf carts (unless your name is coats, linton or dunwoody etc ha ha).lets all hope it goes as smooth as im sure david will make it.

Keith, I’ll save you one when I get there in my Winnebago. Seriously, surely you can reserve one up to, say, two weeks prior? Would be the best way to go.
