After much hype and many shady photoshop hoaxes Apple have announced their iPad mini. The iPad will be available in 16, 32 and 64gb options and cost from £269.
The iPad mini is – obviously – a mini version of the iPad. “Everything you love about iPad — the beautiful screen, fast and fluid performance, FaceTime and iSight cameras, thousands of amazing apps, 10-hour battery life1 — is everything you’ll love about iPad mini too. And you can hold it in one hand.”
It features a 7.5″ ‘retina’ screen, comes with (or without) 3G, wireless, and from what we can tell is very much a replica of the standard iPad just shrunk down and reduced in cost.
The speculation is that the iPad mini is Apple’s response to the crowing number of mini-tablets and ebook readers that will launch this Christmas. In particular, the Kindle Fire which is set to introduce a million new users to the tablet game.
We love the current iPad and it’s perfect for reading Wideopenmag. We don’t particularly feel it needs shrinking but the thought of having a mini-tablet for reading emags, books, games and apps certainly appeals. It looks like a good size to bridge the gap between a laptop and a smart-phone.Could be the perfect travel and road trip accessory?
