Wideopenmag World Cups: Val D’isere Qualification day gallery

Boom – it’s World Cup time again and Jacob Gibbins (Milkpro) just fired over the goods from a big day of racing…

Val D’isere and the French Alps – without doubt one of the most beautiful places on the planet to ride a mountain bike. Not that the racers of this weekend’s World Cup will get much of a chance to check out the sights!

Innerleithen young gun Joe Connell dropping one of the many awkward Alpine hucks. This will be Joe’s first race as the UK’s Junior National Champion. Joe qualied in 76th.

Tahnee Seagrave – fast, female, lives in france, from the UK. Look at Tahnee’s profile on Roots and Rain – there’s only one race on there that she’s come less than 3rd and that was Fort William World Cup where she scored an amazing 14th place. 10th place in quali for Tahnee.

Peaty described the track as an off-camber, hill-side goat track. Whilst he’s right, that doesn’t mean there’s any lack of man-made and gnarly obstacles. Here’s one of the many hucks.

Big hip with just mountains and fresh, alpine air in the background. I bet this one feels like you’re going to land on the bloody moon!

Wideopenmag’s Rich Thomas. Rich had a tough weekend in Wales last week after loosing his chain in finals and missing out on what he felt could have been a good result. With that fresh in his mind he’s charging for a good result to put him back on track. I got a text from RT on Friday though that said “just broke my toe, so much pain and struggling to ride. Just going to have to see what I can do”. What he could do turned out to be damn good indeed – 33rd place in qualies for Rich. Awesome work TeaBag!

Madison Saracen’s Phil Atwill is one of the most stylish riders we’ve seen this year – he just seems to have a unique ability to race fast and throw in the style at the same time. Phil hasn’t had the best season so far but hopefully a 4th place at last weekend’s UK National Champs will give him the boost he needs. Good luck mate!

Thanks to Jacob Gibbins for delivering the goods again!
