Jacob Gibbin’s World Cup photo essay: Spoilt for choice

The last three weeks have seen some quality racing action, horrendous weather and all the thrills and spills you’d expect from any top flight sport. We start our journey in Glencoe, where the BDS guys had worked hard to get a packed Elite field to travel up to Scotland a week early to race in the national series.

Big thanks to Jacob Gibbins for these snaps, check his Facebook page!

Unfortunately the weather didn’t get the memo and with trestle tables flying through the air into cars the right call was made and the race was cancelled.

A bitter pill to swallow for the many that had driven a long way to get there but unavoidable non the less!

Fast forward just under a week and the Wideopen crew rock up in Fort William for the World Cup with glorious sunshine, a touch of wind to keep the midges off and a packed international contingent of riders

The Fort William World Cup is like no other mountain bike spectacle – the racing was good, the track hard work and the crowds incredible!

In the end the master of Aonoch Mor, Greg Minnaar took the spoils, with Tracey Moseley making it win number two for the ladies

Hit fast forward again and we’ve zoomed over to Leogang in Austria for the next round of the World Cup

The track is a bit like a steeper Hopton or Bringewood, with a lot of slippery roots combined with switchbacks on the upper slopes

The UK boys were feeling pretty at home here, with six Brits in the top 20 and nineteen in the top 80.

Cedric as usual put in a smooth run with a bit of showboating!

It was great to see Brendawg back on the bike, putting in a solid run despite a nasty knee injury to come in 31st

Danny Hart is the man (just!) of the moment, the eighteen year old putting in great runs in the last couple of World Cups.. finishing just off the podium in 6th.

And finally, check out a video of the Banshee boys courtesy of Jacob Gibbins.
