Round 1 Diamondback/Riders Retreat Winners

We’ve got a mountain of awesome prizes to give away this season to celebrate the BritishDHSeries

We’ve got 5 Diamondback Sabbath DH framesets AND 2 holidays to Morzine with Riders Retreat – and there’s going to be a competition for every round of the series. All you have to do to win is watch our race videos after each race. That means 5 awesome videos to watch and 5 chances to win!

Here’s what we’re giving away for round 1:

The Sabbath is the first of the new generation of gearbox bikes. It’s taken the Diamondback product design team, testers and engineering partners nineteen long months. The first “Black Sabbath” mule was built in August 2006 after 5months of CAD analysis and tested over the winter months in torrid British weather conditions. Universal Transmissions have refined, lightened and evolved the early G-Boxx1 gearbox. It’s now a lightweight, fully enclosed 7speed transmission system.Available as complete race bike or frame kit consisting of frame, G-Boxx inc shifters and rear sprockets, custom zero dish rear hub, Fox DHX4.0 rear shock, FSA Orbit DH headset and seat clamp.

… And Riders Retreat have also given us a weeks holiday for one person in Morzine or Les Get, staying in one of their top quality chalets. You’ll be based right in the middle of France’s DH/Freeride mecca with easy access to some of the best riding in the world and amazing accommodation to enjoy between rides.

…And without further delay… The winners from round 1 are:

Paul Taylor – Diamondback Sabbath DH frameset

Chris Gallagher – Riders Retreat holiday

Well done fellas! We’ll be contacting you in the next few days to sort it all out!

Thanks to everyone that entered! Don’t forget – you’ve got a chance to win at EVERY round… so… watch this video and get signed up again!

The Atherton Project: Episode One

The days of downhill preparation being a swift half down the pub and a kebab are long gone, the first installment of the Atherton Project covers the winter training in Cali.

Dan racing DH, 4x AND World Cup BMX this year, busy guy!

Red Bull’s online reality TV series ‘The Atherton Project’ is a fly-on-the-wall show tracking the exploits of the most famous family in mountain bike history. Follow British riders Dan, Gee and Rachel Atherton as they compete in events around the world in the 2010 season.

The man behind the camera is legendary mountain bike film maker Clay Porter. Dan, Gee and Rachel have given him unlimited access to their lives as he follows them all over the planet in the one of the craziest adventures to hit the internet.

Halo BritishDHSeries Rd2 – Fort William

Final runs went down today at the fort with a packed elite field – including Julien Camellini, Ben Reid, Stanny, the Athertons, Kovarik, Claire Buchar, Matti Lehikoinen and loads more.

The top 5 men’s elite field was:
Chris Kovarik
Dan Atherton
Ben Reid
Matti Lehikoinen
Matt Simmonds

Elite women:
Rach Atherton
Claire Buchar
Jess Stone

The track was running in typical Fort Bill style all weekend – which is big, rough and loose with massive holes and rocks all the way down. The brand new sections threw in some even gnarlier rock sections to mix things up… If you haven’t seen it, here’s Milkpro and Rich Thomas’ track walk of the new bits:

The track claimed a few victims this weekend… Here’s Stanny licking his wounds after a crash coming into the woods. One dislocated shoulder for the Prince.

Kovarik on the podium – how World Cup does this look?

It was a good weekend for the legend that is Nigel Page – he was back in the saddle, seeded fastest masters and then won the cat. He also had heaps of his CRC riders on the podiums. Happy chap.

I couldn’t sign this off without giving Jacob Gibbins, Paul Roberts and Tim Smith a shout for working their nuts off on the hill all weekend.  Milki’s photos will be in the mag… and Paul and Tim will have a fresh web-edit for you this week, including the SECOND competition to win a Diamondback Sabbath DH frame or a holiday to Morzine with Riders Retreat!

That’s all for now – we’re sat in the Grog and Gruel in the Fort and I’m ready for a beer. Stay tuned this week for LOTS more BDS content….

Glencoe Mountain is GO!

Glencoe Mountain Resort will be open for the biking season from the 17th of May onwards, those that have taken on the graded black DH track in previous years will be glad to hear it is now going to be open to the public throughout the summer and not just for competitions. Glencoe Mountain Resort has also taken delivery of a range of KONA mountain bikes for rental including the brilliant Stinky DH bikes. We also have helmets and body armour so don’t worry if you haven’t managed to bring your own kit with, you can still ride the trail. One of the best things about Glencoe Mountain Resort is the chairlift to the top of which makes it one of the easiest DH tracks to access in the UK, no pedalling back up or waiting to be picked up, just hop on the lift and hit the trail again.

Of course not every one will be brave enough to tackle one of the UK’s toughest downhill courses so for everyone else there are plenty of other trails in the area including the West Highland Way.
After you have enjoyed the riding in the area you can also enjoy our great home-cooked food in our log cabin café or even a refreshing drink from our fully licensed bar, all while taking in the stunning views of the mountains from our panoramic windows and sun terrace.
If you want to try something different while you’re here we will also be running Archery classes, whatever you do don’t aim at the riders!

On May 15-16th Glencoe Mountain Resort will be hosting the SDA Scottish Downhill Championships so come along and watch the best in Scotland take on our track, check out the great products on display at the trade stands and generally enjoy the awesome atmosphere! There will be a live band performing on the Saturday night as well as BBQ’s and other events all through the weekend to celebrate the start of the bike season.

Our uplift and access to the DH trail will be £10 per run or for great value an unlimited day pass will be just £25, for even better value regular visitors can purchase a season pass for £225 of if you buy it before June only £175! Proceeds from lift tickets will be going into future trail expansion, with some great new routes and other exciting features Glencoe Mountain Resort is set to become a biking heaven.
